Marumali Program

Australian Transport Safety Bureau Road Safety Research Grants Programme 2007

A competitive scheme that provides funding for one-off projects proposed by researchers.In 2007 several grants to a maximum individual value of $30,000 will be available for original road safety research projects.

Bethlehem Griffiths Research Foundation Medal

Nominations are now invited for person/s to be considered for the annual Bethlehem Griffiths Research Foundation Medal. The Award will be made to an individual within Australia who has made an outstanding contribution in the area of progressive neurological disorders or palliative care, either in basic or clinical research activities. The successful candidate will receive a medal and a gift of $5,000 to be presented mid-2007. Nominations must be made with the consent of the nominee and should contain a short CV and a brief assessment by the nominator of the achievements of the person/s. PHAA (PHERT) 2007 postgraduate research scholarship
The Public Health Association of Australia’s (PHAA’s) Trust, is calling for applications for the 2007 Annual Post-Masters Research Scholarship of $8,000. One of the designated areas of research is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. Applications are due on 15 March 2007. This scholarship is competitive and is only available to financial PHAA members. For more information visit:

AIATSIS grant applications due by 15 December

Individuals and/or organisations may apply for research grants from the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). Applications must be made on the Research Grants Program 2007 forms which are now available as part of the Research Grant      Information Package. For more information please visit:

Dementia Research Grants, Round 2

The Dementia Research Program is a joint initiative between the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Ageing and Aged Care Division of the Department of Health and Ageing.  The program is part of the Australian Government’s Helping Australians with dementia and their carers 'Making Dementia a National Health Priority' initiative.
Up to $11.5 million over two or three years will be available for Round 2 under this program.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine Research Grants

A call for applications for research projects will be advertised in the national press and posted on the NHMRC website on 16 December 2006.
This call for research is being conducted as part of a new, $5 million, funding initiative announced recently by the Minister for Health and Ageing.

 

Youth Network Grants and Participation Grants

Youth grants provide funding to youth networks within local areas so that groups and individuals who work with young people can come together to share information. The Youth Participation grants support consultations with young people around the development, implementation and evaluation of Youth Action Plan priorities for action. The Department of Health and Ageing has issued a request for tender “Evaluation of the Youth Wellbeing Program in the Central Desert Region of the Northern Territory”, The external closing date is 17th January 2007. (See documents Tenderdoc)

Senior Australian of the Year
Congratulations to CRCAH Chairperson Pat Anderson on winning the NT Senior Australian of the Year

Pat Anderson has a national and international reputation as a powerful advocate for the disadvantaged, with a particular focus on Indigenous health. She is a prolific writer who has published many essays, papers, and articles. Pat is currently a board member of Beyondblue, the bipartisan initiative of federal, state, and territory governments aimed at raising community awareness about depression.

Action Research Annual Conference

 This is just to let you know that a conference in Action Research is being planned for Adelaide in early August 2007. ASSA Summer School for Indigenous Postgraduates

ASSA Summer School for Indigenous Postgraduate Students is being held in Melbourne on 5-9 February 2007 to support Indigenous students. Attached is a letter of invitation and application form. CRCAH Expressions of Interest for PHC Project Leader
The CRCAH requires a Project Leader for the project "Corporate Support Systems for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care services" which is under development. Expressions of interest from researchers or Project Managers with suitable experience who are attracted to undertaking the Project Leader role over the life of the project. Developing a resource to support best practice research in Indigenous Communities
The CRCAH is undertaking a project to develop a resource which will help fulfill the role of the CRCAH to help build the capacity of the Indigenous health research sector to use and participate in research. Indigenous Land Rights
The Law Council of Australia media release just issued, Give Indigenous Communities a Fair Choice Over Land Rights. The Law Council has expressed serious concerns at proposals by the Federal Government to withhold vital services from Aboriginal communities unless they agree to sign their townships over to the Commonwealth for 99 years.
