Funding Opportunities.....


Remember, Flinders Aboriginal Health Research Unit offers assistance to help develop your research ideas and plans, and link you with potential partners. Please contact Inge (82015898 or inge.kowanko@flinders.edu.au)
Funding applications should be submitted through Flinders University, Office of Research. Note that closing dates at Flinders Office of Research are at least one week earlier than external closing dates, and the Flinders University Certification Form needs to be completed for every application.

New 2009/2010 Foundation Daw Park Grants Program

Foundation Daw Park Board invites applications for its 2009/2010 Grants Program. For this round of grants the Board has allocated a total of $100,000 for medical research on the following bases: $85,000.00 for Repatriation General Hospital -based research projects and $15,000.00 for applications from South Australian researchers (including those based at Repatriation General Hospital) for a project specifically focused on Defence and Veteran Health and well-being. Attached is the Research Application Introduction and the Grants Application Form, the latter to be completed and received electronically by 5.00pm, 28th August 2009 to sal.coltman@health.sa.gov.au

Applications now open for the 2010 Fulbright Scholarships

Valued at up to $A50,000, Fulbright scholarships are open to Australian citizens to undertake research or study in the United States for 3 – 12 months. Scholarships can be started between 1 July 2010 and 30 June 2011. Applications are open to Postgraduates (to do research related to their Australian PhD., or enrol in a U.S. degree); Postdoctoral, Professional and Senior Scholars from any field of study.
Applicants from Queensland, Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria are encouraged to consider the state specific Fulbright Scholarships that have now been established.

Australian universities are also encouraged to actively seek applications from Americans to be Fulbright Scholars in Australia in 2009. This supports American academics and postgraduates undertake research with Australian universities for 4 12 months. New Premier's Science and Research Fund (PSRF) – Round 7 open

The PSRF facilitates investment in key science and research initiatives of strategic and sustainable value to the State. Guidelines and Expressions of Interest forms for Round 7 of the Premier’s Science and Research Fund are now available from the DFEEST website. Expressions of Interest close at 12 noon on 7 September 2009 (Office of Research closing date 28 August 2009). New Chronic Conditions Management Workshop

This two-day workshop on the 7 and 8 of September 2009 at the Margaret Tobin Centre, is followed by support to achieve a Certificate of Competence in the use of the Flinders Care Planning Tools. New Seeding Grants for Data Manager Support

The Cancer Council is calling for applications for seeding grants of up to $35,000 for data manager support for clinical cancer databases in SA. The purpose is to strengthen the availability and capacity of clinical cancer databases in SA for research and service monitoring. Heart Foundation Travel Grants and Summer Scholarships
Summer Scholarships
Summer Scholarships are offered to assist undergraduates who have completed at least two years of a medical or science degree to obtain laboratory experience. Summer Scholarships are for a duration of 68 weeks.
Closing Date: 18 September 2009.

New Cancer Council SA Student Vacation Scholarship

Applications for the Cancer Council SA Student Vacation Scholarships are now open. Cancer Council SA offers scholarships each year to undergraduates who are interested in participating in research projects related to cancer. The scholarships are open to University undergraduates who are enrolled in any Faculty and who have completed at least 2 years of their course at the time the scholarship commences. The scholar will be paid $200 per week for up to a maximum of eight weeks. For further information, please visit the Cancer Council website.
Applications close Friday 25th September 2009 (Office of Research closing date 16 September 2009).

 

New Are you a mature-age Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who aspires to achieve higher educational qualifications in finance and business to enhance your community?

The IBA Scholarship Fund aims to contribute to economic development in Indigenous communities by providing opportunities for mature age Indigenous people to develop their knowledge and skills in finance and business through education. The fund is focused on mature age Indigenous people to use the skills and knowledge gained from study to enrich the economic and financial development of their community. Round Open The IBA Scholarship Fund Round 2010 is now open and will close 30 September 2009. This round is suitable for applicants who wish to commence study in early 2010. New Lung Cancer Research Program

FY09 congressional appropriations have provided $20M to the Department of Defense (DOD) (US) Peer Reviewed Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP). The program will support innovative and competitive research focused on the development of integrated components to identify, treat, and manage early curable lung cancer, and the establishment of a tissue bank. The LCRP is interested in research proposals that address one or more of the seven Areas of Emphasis listed in the program announcements/funding opportunities.

Max. Direct Costs: $800K Max. Period of Performance: 4 years
Clinical Fellow Research Award
Max. Direct Costs: $200K Max. Period of Performance: 2 years
Lung Cancer Promising Clinician Research Award
Max. Direct Costs: $375K Max. Period of Performance: 3 years
